About

Claire Cochran (b. 2003, Dallas) is an emerging Texas-based figurative painter working across disciplines in both oil and fiber. Influenced by her background in classics and philosophy, Cochran marries traditional themes of homecoming and communion with a contemporary interest in materiality and abstraction. Her work reimagines intimate scenes of domestic life as single points existing along two axes—the horizontal (temporal) and vertical (transcendent).

Cochran works closely with textiles in her process, frequently weaving and dyeing her own canvases with materials she collects from around her family’s generational cabin. The rich metaphors embedded in this process of textile making inform much of her artistic philosophy.

In addition to receiving international recognition, Cochran's work has been included in numerous exhibitions across Texas. Her work was recently featured in the 2024 international juried Small Works Exhibition at Jag Gallery in Key West and has been published in two editions of The Standard literary magazine.
